Hi Everyone,
Today, there feels like a lot to talk about and then—very little at the same time. I guess it's because I'm trying to savor every bit of today. It's Sunday, which is both a relaxing day and a prep day. Prepping for the week!
My students love scavenger hunts. I post little pictures around the room, and they go around with a checklist to find them all. I've done this several times, usually based on a theme, so this time I wanted to up the ante a bit and create one featuring famous works of art. This is where, like it or not, AI is so helpful! So, along with our regularly scheduled fall-themed art this week, there will be a scavenger hunt for students to enjoy when they finish their projects.
At school, we've been having fun making chameleons. Thank you, Ms. Nguyen, for this one! Chameleon Paper Sculptures.
What I learned: Most classes did a nice job; however, I'll be more selective about which groups I do this project with in the future. It's definitely one for more confident learners. I have a couple of groups that just couldn't quite manage it.
We have Art Club on half-days at our school, which I love, and we've had two recently! We made these toilet paper masks. These forms have been sitting in the art room, and I've been wanting to use them. This was the perfect opportunity!
We made the masks one week and painted them during our last club meeting. If you're planning on making these in your classroom, remember that less water is better—just enough to press the toilet paper into the form. Give them two to three weeks to dry, depending on your climate. If you live someplace dry, they'll probably be ready in a week. Here in the humid South, it took two to three weeks!
My first graders are learning to draw owls. We read Owl Moon and practiced drawing them. Then, everyone picked a favorite drawing to turn into a finished owl on black paper using oil pastels. I love seeing the results of these!
Kindergarten is making these confetti pumpkins. OMG—too cute!
In my personal art room, I'm continuing to work on my Inktober sketches (I'll make a video when I'm done). I'm also making birds with paper clay (more on that later) but you can see the beginning of them below. Last, we're headed to the SC State Fair this evening for the art reception. Jules and I both have pieces that have been accepted this year. Yay! Pictures next week.
Cheers, everyone, I hope you have a wonderful week!
