Believe in Magic

Welcome to my latest painting.
On the door mat that leads inside the door it says Believe in magic.  This is the title of the painting and a series I'm starting called Opening the Door.  Hence the door is a physical door that is propped open.

I got this idea from a poster I made for the classroom about space (one of the elements of art).  It was just a square with a road receding into the horizon and where the road ends there's a little red door and you open it to find space (stars in the sky space). My students just gravitated toward this poster and the little red door.  They were fascinated in seeing what was behind the door. That's what has given me the idea for this new series.

There are two things that are so important and challenging about creative projects.

1. Starting!  I love this - the greatest distance in math is zero to one.  Getting started can be so hard.  We get caught up in the ideas and wanting it to be good and blah, blah, blah.  So, instead of all of that - just do one little thing every time you can.

2. Forget about being perfect and having a vision about what it will be before you start.  Even though I have lots of ideas about what I want to capture with this series - I have to let those all go in the name of creation and in order to expand.  I really want to try and put one thing on a bunch of canvases and see where it takes me. In order to do that I have to let go of where I want to go and just get started.

The idea of just getting started is what has helped me so much in so many areas of life.  Those baby steps add up.

Hope you find a little magic today!
Love, Eileen
